As a national non-profit, we mobilize transportation networks to deliver surplus food to communities in need. Together, we’re increasing access to nutritious food, fighting hunger, and reducing food waste. Take a look at our network’s impact and how our programs empower real, local change.

It’s hard to believe how quickly 2024 has passed. Our 15th anniversary year inspired me to reflect on how far we’ve come since the early days of Move For Hunger. In our very first year (2009), we delivered just shy of 25,000 lbs of food to eight different food banks. That was the pilot, our proof of concept, so to speak. In 2024, we delivered more than 15 million pounds of food to 494 food banks and pantries across the US & Canada.  This is almost 50% more impact than what we did just one year earlier in 2023.

Impact like this doesn’t happen by accident, and it certainly doesn’t happen overnight.  It takes an incredible team, amazing board members, countless interns & volunteers, and thousands of industry professionals donating their time and resources to bring Move For Hunger’s vision to life.

Since our founding, Move For Hunger has dedicated itself to maximizing every available resource, reducing food waste and ensuring fewer people go to bed hungry. And while we’ve seen our impact grow quite significantly over these past 15 years, unfortunately, food insecurity has grown as well.  Today, hunger is at its highest levels in more than a decade. Now, 47 million Americans and 8.7 million Canadians don’t know where their next meal is coming from.  You can blame COVID, politics, housing costs, healthcare, or the price of food. Frankly, you can try to blame any number of things. However, the reality is that until we can help lift people out of poverty, and make it more affordable for people to work and thrive, we’re going to see more people struggling to put food on the table.

Gratefully, 2024 was filled with highlights and milestones. We launched our Charity Freight Network and are quickly seeing more freight and logistics partners join us in our fight against hunger and food waste. We responded quickly, and meaningfully, to the hurricanes in Florida & the Carolinas - delivering more than 800,000 lbs of aid to the affected regions. We organized team-building events with big brands, including Pinterest, KPMG, & HelloFresh. And we capped off the year with an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show! (Fun fact: She’s even cooler in real life than she is on TV!)

While reflecting on our accomplishments over the past 15 years has been fun, it’s now a new year, and our mission to fight hunger and food waste continues. None of our success or impact is possible without people like YOU. Whether you’ve shared our content on social media, organized a food drive, became a monthly donor, ran a race for Team Move For Hunger, or volunteered your time to help us recover food - we are grateful for you!

Your support fuels our mission.  Thank you for continuing to be a champion of our cause.  Let’s work together to feed even more families in 2025!

Food Insecurity on the Rise for the Second Year in a Row

Food insecurity in the U.S. increased by 7.4% in 2023 - increasing again after a decade of decline. More than 47 million Americans, including 1 in 5 children, lack access to fresh, reliable, and affordable food. To combat the rising number of food insecure households, Move For Hunger is working to deliver more food each year - including a record 15 million pounds in 2024!

In December 2024, the Farm Bill received another extension, ensuring a continuation of the vital Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. However, federal payments to victims of SNAP benefit theft are ending - leaving it up to the states. This means some families may end up compromised and unable to use their benefits. Will we see a new bill in 2025?

Launched in 2021, Move For Hunger’s Food Recovery Program tackles hunger and reduces food waste at scale. We work with our transportation partners to deliver surplus food from farms and other sources directly to communities in need. In efforts to divert food from rotting in landfills, the program has pioneered innovative transportation and cold storage solutions by working with a diverse range of partners across the country - from gleaning organizations to farmers markets. In just a few years, we’ve rescued nearly 12 million meals!

Last fall, disaster struck after two major hurricanes barreled through much of the Southeast. With food banks flooded, millions without power, and residents stranded, our incredible network of movers and partners stepped up to the plate to transport more than 800,000 lbs. of much needed food and drinks to these affected communities.

Program Impact:

  • $13,639 raised for Disaster Relief in 2024.
  • 832,915.00 lbs of food donated in 2024.
  • 18 movers participated in efforts.

Making Every Donation Count

As I waited in an extremely long line [at the food bank] to drop 30 bags off, I was able to witness just how very important the work of Move For Hunger is. I was the only one dropping off donations; the other 20 vehicles were all picked up from the food shelf. You probably don’t hear it enough, thanks for everything you do!

When I learned about Team Move for Hunger, I knew that was the charity for me! I have been so excited about it since the beginning. To put myself through college, I worked as a mover. I know of the hard work and dedication it takes to do that job. And I think Move for Hunger did a fantastic job seizing an opportunity to help those in need that fit within their business model. It's just an effective way to help others! Running the Berlin Marathon with Team Move for Hunger was a privilege. I am grateful for their support and all the good in the world that they do. While raising money, I told everyone about this charity and how I truly believed in what they do. Thank you again and I hope we can cross paths again in the future!
