CORT Gives Back With Meal Kit Packing Event

November 6, 2024

To end the month of October, CORT and Move For Hunger hosted a double impact event during their Global Network Partner meeting. The day started with high energy trivia paired with a meal packing activation that helped provide 120 meals to Oxon Hill Food Pantry in Maryland.

In 2018 CORT and Move For Hunger partnered together to reduce food waste and move more meals. CORT, is the leader in home and office furniture rental, and has become an esteemed partner with us through transporting food donations from most of the 2,700 apartment communities that are part of our extensive multifamily network.

Over the years, CORT has created a major impact on hunger relief efforts -  delivering and contributing more than 1 million lbs of food donations from our 2,700+ multifamily communities. Just this year their efforts have provided over 1,500 meals across the country.

Last year, CORT was awarded Partner of the Year after transporting over 363,000 lbs of food. This is more than 303,000 meals donated to help food banks and pantries serve their communities.

At their latest event with us, we tackled important issues such as hunger and food waste, with curated questions about CORT’s industry and company during our trivia team building event. Then their team gathered together to pack meal kits to give back to their community

Since our kits are designed to feed a family of four, the 120 meals that were donated could hypothetically feed a family dinner for 30 days straight. With 47 million Americans facing food insecurity, every meal and donation counts. This event ended with more knowledge, meals, and team morale.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
