Huge Thanks to This Summer’s Motivated Movers for Transporting and Delivering Meals to Those in Need

August 26, 2022

As Summer comes to a close, kids go back to school and the leaves start to change, but hunger doesn’t slow down. 38 Million Americans, and 1 in 6 children are still facing hunger, and there are steps that we can take to keep lowering this number. With the help of our amazing movers and collaborative companies, we can continue to feed the people who need it the most. Thank you so much to all the companies who collaborated with us this summer and continue to show up.

Here are some of our highlights!

For two weeks, starting in the beginning of May, Natural Retreats held their second annual National Spring Into Action Food Drive and Fundraiser to help support their community and fight hunger! Natural Retreats is a luxury vacation rental company based in Charlottesville, Virginia and the food drive was held in offices across twelve different states.

This year’s drive brought in $514 of monetary donations, (which is nearly double from last year), and will provide 1,300 meals to people struggling with hunger nationwide. Food collected from the drive was donated to St. Francis Center in Sea Islands, South Carolina, Park City Campus Food Pantry in Utah, Food for Thought Food Bank in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and lastly Blue Ridge Area Food Bank- Thomas Jefferson Area Branch in Charlottesville, Virginia! We are so grateful for your support and partnership, and are looking forward to next year’s third annual Spring food drive!

On May 18th, Budd Van Lines hit the mark by transporting over 16,000 lbs of nonperishable foods from Target and donating it to people in need!! Over 13,000 meals were provided to the Food Bank of South Jersey to fill up the bellies of kids and families this summer! In a state where over 175,800 children are considered food insecure,  every meal matters. Move For Hunger was trying to find a mover quickly, and it can be very difficult to find movers who have the resources and time to complete last minute transports. Even though it was a last minute transport, Budd Van Lines showed up and saved the day!

At the end of May, 4,600 lbs of food were rescued from the Marine Corp Historic Half Marathon in Fredericksburg Virginia! An abundance of bananas, granola bars, and water were picked up by J. Barber Moving and Storage, a National Van Lines agent, and transported to Micah Ecumenical Ministries in Fredericksburg! All the food rescued from the half marathon will provide Virginians struggling with food insecurity over 3,800 meals and will be distributed by Micah Ecumenical Ministries! In Fredericksburg City Virginia alone, 1 in 10 people are struggling with food insecurity. Move For Hunger is thankful for our partnerships with races and movers to collaborate to save food from going to waste and filling the bellies of hungry people across the country.

On July 11th, Lineage Logistics collaborated with Move For Hunger and recovered a monumental 19 pallets of perishable food by transporting vegetarian burritos to the Texas-Midwest Food Bank in Dallas! This incredible transport helped provide over 19,400 meals for people and families struggling with food insecurity in Texas. More than 23,000 lbs of food would have gone to waste and unable to help feed a portion of the 3.7 million food insecure Texans without our amazing movers! Every action taken to fight hunger makes a difference.

At the end of July, Ryder Fleet Management helped out again and assisted Move For Hunger in another saving food operation where 7,200 lbs (6,000 meals) of perishable food was transported to a food bank in Louisiana. TopBox Foods was challenged with cold storage during the boxing stage of production, so Move For Hunger arranged a refrigerator truck to show up and load up over 600 boxes and store them overnight in the refrigerated truck! The fresh food was donated to CareSouth Food Bank for distribution in Baton Rouge! In Louisiana, 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity which is almost 25% more than the national average. Thank you so much to Top Box Foods and Ryder Fleet Management for making this fresh food rescue successful!

Throughout the month of July, and almost every Sunday for over a year, Apex Moving has been kicking hunger to the curb and has helped transport over 1,000,000 lbs since the beginning of this partnership and transported over 31,000 lbs of food from Amazon to The Branch of Nashville, a Tennessee based food bank, this July alone. This transport happened weekly throughout the month and recovered over 25,800 meals that would have otherwise gone to waste!! These transports alone helped feed over 20,000 people! How amazing is that? We are so thankful for Apex Moving and their continuous effort and support with transporting and helping those in need! Your help is so needed, especially in Tennessee where 1 in 10 people are considered food insecure.
On August 8th, Two Men and a Truck in Wichita helped save the day and transported 8,800 lbs of food to the Kansas Food Bank! Way to go Two Men and a Truck!! This food transport and rescue helped provide over 7,300 meals to the Kansas Food Bank and help fill pantries of families in need throughout the final stretch of summer. Thank you for your support and for helping out the almost 1 in 10 people who are food insecure in the Sunflower State.

In the middle of August, the Association of Healthcare Food Service held their AHF Conference at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona! On August 10th and they wanted to donate all leftover non-perishable food from their event to a local food bank! We love our conscientious companies like the Association for Healthcare Food Service! S&M Moving picked up 1,180 lbs from the convention and transported it to Central Arizona Shelter Services to distribute to families and children in need! From this convention’s transport, over 980 meals were provided to families and children who are struggling with food insecurity. In Arizona, 1 in 10 individuals are struggling with food insecurity, and we are thankful for our partners for making sure to donate their food to people who need it.

We are so thankful for the moving companies and company members that participated in the food pickups and transports this Summer. We couldn’t be more thankful for their consistent support of Move For Hunger, and we look forward to seeing their impact in the future!
