In 2021, we started bringing fresh, nutritious produce to food banks and pantries across the country through our Fresh Food Program. Since then we’ve been able to capture and store over 9.5 million pounds of perishable food. We couldn’t do this without the help of our partners, innovative transportation, and cold storage solutions.
This year we’ve teamed up with Gotham Food Pantry (GFP) to bring nutritious food to public housing residents in New York City. In 2020, they began their efforts to serve as a conduit between local food retailers and New York City Housing Authority residents. With over 30 NYCHA resident council community partners , Gotham Food Pantry is committed to establishing food rescue operations and supporting areas with high food insecurity throughout the five boroughs.
Since the start of 2024, on the second Monday of each month our generous transportation partners provide the necessary resources and crew to recover fresh produce from City Harvest. These recoveries are then delivered to two GFP community fridge sites for their monthly distribution. In the last five months, Gentle Giant and Steinway Movers transported 70,000 lbs of food in collaboration with Gotham Food Pantry in NYC to @classon-community-fridge and @blackvoicesmattercollective.
This is an incredible impact with over 57,000 meals distributed through the Gotham Food Pantry to its local community fridges.
