Over 1 Million Pounds Donated by North American Van Lines Agents!

May 16, 2024

As we dive into National Moving Month this May, we are thrilled to share some truly exciting news from our dedicated partners at North American Van Lines. Their agents have collectively surpassed a monumental benchmark—over 1 million lbs of food donated since the inception of their partnership with Move For Hunger in 2011!

A Journey of Dedication and Impact

This achievement is not just a number—it represents countless meals that have reached tables in homes where food insecurity exists . It’s a testament to the  collaborative effort and the impact between moving industry leaders and charitable organizations.

From bustling cities to the quiet, rural towns across North America, these donations have made their way into the hands of those who need them most.

The Great North American Food Drive: A Beacon of Hope

Building on this wave of success, we're excited to announce the return of the Great North American Food Drive for its 4th consecutive year. This initiative has not only become a cornerstone of our partnership but also a beacon of hope for many.

Last year, 27 North American agents participated, collecting over 91,000 lbs of food and raising more than $4,000 to combat hunger. This extraordinary effort translates to a grand total of over 86,000 meals provided to individuals and families in need. The event has become one of the largest (if not the largest) nationwide food drive in the country!

As movers across the continent band together, their collective effort during this drive amplifies our mission to combat hunger and deliver hope one box at a time.

Expressing Gratitude and Looking Forward

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the North American Van Lines agents and everyone involved in reaching this significant milestone. Your efforts are not just moving belongings—they're moving hearts, hopes, and dreams.

Let's keep the momentum going, continue to make a difference, and set our sights on the next million pounds. Here’s to more years of partnership, more food for the hungry, and more lives touched!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
