Season of Giving Update: Celebrating Our Network’s Impact

December 20, 2024

It’s almost the New Year and Season of Giving is in full swing. We’re so grateful for the generosity and support coming from our network. As we embrace the spirit of giving, we want to share an update on the incredible progress we’ve made so far.

As of posting, our network has helped raise over $23,662 this season! Thanks to your efforts, we will provide more than 19,700 meals to those in need. That’s not all! This season has been full of surprises, opportunities, and more meals.

A Spotlight on Hunger: The Kelly Clarkson Show

This past week, we were given the incredible opportunity to spotlight the impact of our mission and network on The Kelly Clarkson Show! As part of the Rad Human segment, our Executive Director Adam Lowy, sat down with Kelly to talk through the history of Move For Hunger and the support we’re providing to the 47 million Americans experiencing food insecurity today. Watch the segment to see a surprise!

ArCANtecture with Pinterest

All the way in California, Pinterest hosted an ArCANtecture special event with our team. Almost 100 people were up for the challenge to work together to build a structure using only cans and/or boxes of non-perishable food. Team members split up into nine groups to build landmarks inspired by the cities around the world where Pinterest has an office. After the event, 4,007 meals were donated to San Francisco Marin County Food Bank - what a great impact!

Impactful Food Drives & Fundraisers

Reducing food waste and delivering more meals is only possible with our dedicated network. This season, Altair raised funds for over 8,500 meals through their Annual Global Grinch Food Drive - enough to feed a family of four for two whole years! Another one of our partners, Equity Residential, brought in 7,448 meals to their local community through the Full Bellies Full Hearts Fundraiser. A big thank you to everyone who hosted a fundraiser or food drive and helped fight food insecurity this holiday season!

For just $30, you can feed a neighbor in need for a month. Donate by midnight tonight to make 2x the impact. With the generous support of our partners at CORT, donations will be matched up to $5,000!

Happy holidays everyone!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
