Unleashing the Holiday Spirit: Altair Hosts 4th Annual Grinch Food Drive

December 18, 2023

The spirit of giving was in the air, and not even the Grinch could steal it! Altair Global, in partnership with the Renegades Soccer Club teams and Move For Hunger, hosted its 4th Annual Grinch Food Drive and Fundraiser

This Grinch-themed food drive has become a holiday tradition for Altair and the local community of Frisco, Texas. The Fill-A-Truck food drive encourages community members and Altair employees to make food or financial donations. This year’s event collected more than 10,000 lbs of non-perishable donations and raised over $11,000 in financial donations, providing more than 37,000 meals for local food insecure communities.

In this impressive initiative, Altair didn't work alone. Over 100 Renegades Soccer Teams participated in the food drive and fundraiser, showing how teamwork can extend beyond the soccer field. Nelson Westerberg also played a crucial role, providing the trailer and delivering the food to the North Texas Food Bank. Indeed, it took a village (or in this case, a Whoville) to make such an enormous impact.

The event wasn't just about collecting food donations. The event provided an immersive "Whoville" experience for adults and children alike. It was an occasion not just to give, but to come together as a community, to enjoy the holiday spirit, and to remember that giving is what the season is all about.

Seeing an entire community come together to fight hunger was awe-inspiring. Altair Global goes above and beyond year after year - we couldn’t be prouder to have them as a partner.

As we look back at the holiday season, we remembered the real lesson of the Grinch:

"Maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more!"

And in the spirit of giving a little bit more, the community came together to support the 4th Annual Altair Grinch Food Drive. After all, nothing said 'holiday cheer' like a community coming together to make a difference.

Altair Global became a Move For Hunger partner in 2016, but has been actively participating with Move For Hunger since 2012. Since joining the Move For Hunger network, together with their suppliers, they have collected and delivered more than 5.7 million pounds of food across the U.S. and Canada.

In Texas, more than 4 million people experience food insecurity, and The North Texas Food Bank feeds nearly 640,000 hungry Texans. It’s thanks to the amazing people at Altair Global that more families will be able to spread cheer this holiday season.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
