Over 20 MC Companies Properties Host Spring Into Action Food Drive, Donating nearly 5,000 Meals to Food Insecure Communities

May 9, 2022

This spring, 24 MC Companies properties in Arizona, Texas, and Oklahoma hosted a Spring into Action Food Drive for their residents, collecting almost 6,000lbs of donations, equalling nearly 5,000 meals, for those in need.

MC Companies has been a partner with Move For Hunger since 2020, and has done a fantastic job encouraging their properties to stay engaged in the fight against hunger! Last spring was the first time MC Companies hosted a food drive campaign for their properties, providing over 9,400 meals to food insecure families and individuals. The property that collected the most donations in 2021, The Place at Savanna Springs, even won Community of the Month for April 2021!

This year, the top collector was the MC Companies Corporate Office, which is based in Scottsdale, Arizona. They collected 580lbs of donations, providing over 480 meals to St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. Thanks to S&M Moving Systems for transporting the donations!

In a close second place, The Place At Forest Ridge, located in Flagstaff, Arizona, collected over 540lbs! This will provide 450 meals to the Flagstaff Family Food Center.

Third place goes to The Place at Fountains at Sun City, located in Sun City, Arizona. They collected nearly 500lbs of donations, equalling over 400 meals. Thanks to Atlantic Relocation Systems for transporting the donations to St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance! The Place at Fountains at Sun City also won Community of the Month in December 2021 for collecting over 500lbs of donations during their Trick or Can Food Drive.

We love seeing the impact MC Companies properties are making on their local communities, especially considering there are nearly 300,000 food insecure individuals in Arizona and over 4 million in Texas. Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
