Top 5 Corporate Events For Team Building In 2024

August 14, 2024

Team building is essential to creating a healthy workplace environment. It not only builds morale within the workplace, but it also strengthens the bonds between employees and allows those who work together to do so more efficiently.

What if you could do something to make the world a better place at the same time? This is where Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) events come into play. These types of team-building activities can include charity fundraisers, community service projects, educational workshops, volunteer activities, and more.

Move For Hunger hosts several in-person events that can’t be found anywhere else and we plan the event every step of the way to ensure a great experience. The best part? Every event hosted by Move For Hunger helps fight food insecurity in your area! Just recently, we partnered up with Ocean Port Paddle Club, to host a Spread The Love food drive where together we collected over 700 lbs of peanut butter and jelly, enough to make more than 3,800 sandwiches.

Successful CSR events often require large amounts of teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication to achieve their objectives. They also provide employees with opportunities to work towards a common goal that transcends regular business objectives. This fosters trust and mutual respect among team members, enhancing overall teamwork skills that can then translate into better-improved performance within their organization. The primary goal of a food drive is to gather non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, pasta, rice, cereal, and other shelf-stable items, from donors within the community. These donations are then sorted, packaged, and distributed to local food banks, food pantries, soup kitchens, or directly to individuals and families facing food insecurity. 44 million people in the U.S. have turned to hunger relief programs for support due to hunger and food insecurity that’s nearly one in seven people.

These types of events are our bread and butter, so to speak.  To date, we’ve organized several thousand food drives and events all across the United States and Canada to help schools, community organizations, small businesses, and large companies provide meals for their neighbors in need.  In our 15 years, Move For Hunger has helped provide nearly 40 million meals to food banks in the U.S. and Canada.

Food drives provide an excellent opportunity to help with team building within an organization while helping fight hunger at the same time. Participating gives team members a shared goal of helping those in need within their community, and can create a sense of purpose and fulfillment. This type of event requires a lot of communication and trust which is essential within a healthy workplace. Sign up today!

Truck pull events are where you tie a big rope to a moving truck and have teams of 10 compete to see who can pull it 100 feet in the fastest time, while raising money to feed those in need. For Hunger Action Month, we worked with Ace Relocation Systems and Relocity, to host the first Bay Area Truck Pull on September 14th, 2022 our most successful Truck Pull ever!

The event raised $60,000 for food-insecure communities across the United States, providing more than 150,000 meals to those in need. Pulling a truck requires synchronized effort from all team members. Each individual's contribution is crucial to the team's success. Teams learn to communicate effectively, coordinate movements, and leverage each other's strengths to optimize performance. The fact team members come from diverse backgrounds, roles, and departments within the organization presents the perfect opportunity as well. Click here to learn more!

ArCANtecture is a fun and educational employee engagement event where teams work together to build a structure using only cans and/or boxes of non-perishable food. The biggest, most creative, and most stable structure will claim victory - and the winning team gets an award and secures bragging rights for the rest of the year! The food used will then be delivered to a local food bank providing thousands of meals to your neighbors in need.

A recent example of this would be the ArCANtecture event Move For Hunger and Monmouth County held July 9th. Which resulted in the donation of over 3,100 meals for families in need! In other words, these meals could feed approximately 258 families for a day! This employee engagement event requires immense amounts of communication and teamwork in order to pull off and it’s also fun! Allowing employees to work together towards a common goal building trust and other skills while also making an impact in your community! Click here to register!

Cooking classes offer a great opportunity to team build and promote employee engagement: Participants must coordinate tasks and share responsibilities, while effectively communicating to ensure the dish turns out well. This promotes cooperation and strengthens interpersonal relationships along with trust which is essential in cooking, as team members rely on each other to contribute their part effectively. It could also provide healthy competition between team members in a fun and healthy environment. Check out Zero Waste Kitchen by Move For Hunger, where you can find zero waste recipes and much more! Educational workshops are typically interactive and hands-on, aiming to both impart knowledge and develop competencies. This allows employees to bond through discussion and learn new information at the same time, encouraging teamwork and communication. At Move For Hunger, we host trivia for your team and mix in some pop-culture trivia with questions about hunger and food insecurity. Your team has fun while learning about a serious topic. This increases awareness of hunger and could help raise funding as well.

Just recently Move For Hunger hosted a virtual trivia competition between MI and OH, where participants could compete for free or donate $25. This event was extremely easy to set up and essentially cost nothing to host, and those involved helped raise nearly $600 for hunger. Click here to learn more!

Why participate?

Each one of these events offers the perfect chance to provide employees with opportunities to strengthen their bonds together and promote a healthier work environment where trust, communication, and collaboration come much more easily. In today's dynamic workplaces, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork is essential for driving productivity and employee satisfaction.

Furthermore, these team-building activities not only strengthen bonds among colleagues but also contribute to the broader community through initiatives like donating food to local banks or raising funds for those in need. They encourage creativity, problem-solving skills, and leadership development in a supportive and enjoyable setting.

By investing in team-building activities that align with corporate social responsibility and employee engagement goals, organizations can both enhance workplace morale and demonstrate their commitment to making a positive impact beyond business objectives. Such initiatives empower employees to work towards shared goals, fostering a workplace culture that values teamwork, innovation, and compassion. Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
