Get Ready to Start Movin’ in the Move 2 Fight Hunger Challenge this June, presented by Weichert Workforce Mobility and Nelson Westerberg

May 1, 2022

The Move 2 Fight Hunger challenge is almost here! Starting in June, participants of the challenge will get “moving” in support of a worthy cause - fighting hunger! Our goal is to surpass last year’s challenge of 50,000 meals and provide 75,000 meals to those in need in 2022!

Participants are encouraged to do any activity they enjoy - like dancing, running, walking their dog, gardening, knitting, or even cooking - which will count towards fighting hunger.

A social media-activity app, called atlasGO, will be used to track your activities (choose from more than 5,000!). atlasGo can track miles, steps, or activity minutes, and is able to easily sync with Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, and Strava. In the app, participants will be able to see leaderboards, post selfies with custom frames, and chat with other participants.

Registration starts for as little as a $15 donation! Here are the different tiers of registration you can choose from:

$10 - SupPAWter (only applicable to dogs - separate registration required for human participants) - you’ll receive a special dog travel bowl!
$15 - Food Rescuer - You’ll receive a digital certificate & digital medal for your participation!
$25 - Hunger Fighter - You’ll receive a digital certificate & physical medal for your participation!
$35 -  Hunger Fighting Friend - You’ll receive a digital certificate, physical medal, and a t-shirt for your participation!
$50 -  Hunger Fighting Warrior- You’ll receive a digital certificate, physical medal, t-shirt, and a towel for your participation!
$100 - Hunger Fighting Champion - You’ll receive a digital certificate, physical medal, t-shirt, towel, and a knapsack for your participation!

The sponsors of this event, Weichert Workforce Mobility and Nelson Westerberg, are both partners with Move For Hunger. Weichert Workforce Mobility became a partner in 2019, and Nelson Westerberg became a partner in 2012! Both organizations also won Move For Hunger’s 2021 Partner of the Year Awards for their dedication to fighting hunger. We’re beyond thankful to Weichert Workforce Mobility and Nelson Westerberg for sponsoring this event!

With 42 million Americans and 1 in 6 children living without enough food to eat on a day to day basis, the Move 2 Fight Hunger event is a great way to provide meals to local food insecure communities. We hope you’ll join us this summer to help us MOVE as one, as we fight hunger together this June - and make sure you encourage your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors to join!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
