IAT & Move For Hunger Provide 30,000 Meals from New Partnership

June 10, 2024

IAT Insurance Group, a specialty insurance and surety provider, and Move For Hunger, a national hunger relief non-profit organization, form a new partnership to make an impact on food insecure communities.

This partnership will provide an initial 30,000 meals to communities in need. As partners, IAT Insurance Group will support Move For Hunger’s food rescue and other programs on an ongoing basis. It also provides the opportunity to continue to expand the Move For Hunger network.

“What’s special about this opportunity to give back is that we’re doing so in partnership with our customer – household goods movers,” said VP of Moving & Storage, Kevin Kolb. “We are excited about this newfound partnership and the ongoing impact we will make in our communities together.”

Move For Hunger was founded in 2009 by Adam Lowy and now has built out an elaborate network of supporters. It includes over 1,200 moving companies, including many of the world’s leading relocation management companies, and more than 3,000 multifamily apartment communities. Move For Hunger has provided over 44 million pounds of food, equaling more than 36 million meals, to those in need.

Adam Lowy, Founder of Move For Hunger, stated: “With 44 million Americans facing food insecurity every day, partnerships like this are crucial. IAT Insurance's support strengthens our mission, enabling us to provide more meals to those in need. Together, we can make a significant impact in our communities.”

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
