Hungry for Change: Good Greek Moving & Storage Renews Partnership with Move For Hunger

June 20, 2024

Good Greek Moving & Storage, Florida's premier local & long-distance moving company, and Move For Hunger, a national hunger relief non-profit organization, celebrate Move For Hunger’s 15 year anniversary by continuing their partnership to provide hunger relief nationwide.

Joining forces in 2023, Good Greek Moving & Storage has been a force to reckon with, rescuing over 23,500 lbs of food since the partnership's inception. That's over 19,600 meals served to communities in need.

"Good Greek Moving and Storage is proud to be a partner with Move For Hunger. Our top priority is that of the community to help any way we can,” said Spero Georgedakis, CEO of Good Greek Moving.

Recently, they participated in the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the United States. During their participation, they transported more than 16,000 lbs of donations, providing over 13,500 meals to Metropolitan Ministries in Tampa, Florida. This feat is truly impacting the lives of nearly 3 million food insecure Floridians.

Move For Hunger was founded in 2009 by Adam Lowy and now has built out an elaborate network of supporters. It includes over 1,200 moving companies, including many of the world’s leading relocation management companies, and more than 3,000 multifamily apartment communities. Move For Hunger has provided over 44 million pounds of food, equaling more than 36 million meals, to those in need.

“Good Greek's commitment to our cause has been nothing short of remarkable,” said Adam Lowy, Executive Director of Move For Hunger. “Their participation in events like the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive demonstrates their dedication to making a tangible difference.”

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
