Participants could do almost anything to "move" such as dancing, running, walking with your dog, gardening, and even cooking to count towards fighting hunger. The 279 participants used the social media-activity app atlasGO to log over 5,400 activities. Within the app, users viewed leaderboards, chatted, and posted selfies. People could participate anywhere and engage in some friendly competition.
Registration started for as little as a $25 donation! With every increase in donation level, participants received cool swag like a commemorative Challenge medal, MOVE 2 Fight Hunger Challenge t-shirt, water bottle, and sweatshirt. When you registered your fur-babies, they got a special treat!
“What we love about partnering with Move For Hunger is seeing the direct benefit to those in need,” said Erin Almand, Director of Business Development. “Then you have a fun event like this that motivates the community to physically “move” which in turn fights hunger with donations -- it doesn’t get much better than that! At CarsArrive, our focus is always on people and that includes our community. We are blessed to have the opportunity to give back however we can.”
While participants got to spend time (mostly) outside, the work ultimately went toward helping children that face hunger. Feeding America says 22 million students depend on the National School Lunch Program. Thus, during summer when the USDA Summer Food Service Program supports approximately 4 million children, 18 million are still struggling.
“To actually see how many meals have been donated as a result of our partnership is invaluable. That’s what keeps us motivated and determined to participate in every way possible,” said Almand.
