What Is a CSR Event? Engage Employees While Fighting Hunger

August 8, 2025

In today's corporate landscape, companies are increasingly recognizing the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In fact, 94% of major US corporations plan to increase their corporate giving over the next few years.

What Is CSR & a CSR Event?

You may be wondering, what exactly is a CSR event? These give back events allow businesses and employees to engage in activities that benefit society, often focusing on social, environmental, or philanthropic causes, and at the same time enhance employee engagement, foster team building, and strengthen brands.

Some events are hosted onsite at a company’s office, while others take place offsite in partnership with nonprofits or local organizations. Some examples are corporate retreats, annual leadership meetings, or even conferences. These events are also meant to meet the needs of companies of all shapes, sizes, and budgets. CSR events can address a wide range of pressing social and environmental issues, depending on a company’s mission, partnerships, and more. One pressing issue that CSR events can address is food insecurity

Currently, food insecurity affects 47 million Americans across the United States, and organizations such as Move For Hunger are leading the charge in combating this crisis. By partnering with Move For Hunger, companies can host impactful CSR events that make a real impact.

Ultimately, these events create shared value for both the company and the greater good.

Here are five examples of team building activities you can host with Move For Hunger:

1. Meal Packing Events

This hands-on activity allows employees to pack meals and recipe cards designed to feed a family of four that are donated to a local food bank or pantry of your choice.

2. ArCANtecture

Looking for a fun and interactive team-building event? Teams collaborate to construct structures using canned goods, blending creativity with philanthropy. Post-event, the cans are donated, providing meals to those in need.

3. Bread and Putter

Hear From Our Partners

“I loved the variety of trivia, the pace was great, and the format was easy to use and fun.” -Maryann Walker, Beacon Health System.

“We had the privilege of working alongside Move For Hunger to show our team how dire the hunger needs are within our local community. After participating in their SNAP Challenge, our entire team felt a renewed appreciation for what they have, but more importantly, they learned how much the world around them needs their help. We live in a country that is so incredibly blessed, which unfortunately can make it easy to forget how many are still in need. Working with Move For Hunger opened our eyes to how real the hunger crisis is, not just nationally but within our own communities. However, it is not enough to just know; we also must act. We're thrilled that Move For Hunger gave us the opportunity both to learn AND to act. Thank you for all that you do throughout our local and nationwide communities!” - Amanda Pietrocola, Momentum Technology.

“Move For Hunger provided our team with a fun team building experience that also raised awareness on the facts regarding food insecurity in our society and allowed us to "play with our food" before sharing it with a local food bank to help our neighbors in need. It truly was a win-win-win!” - Participant, Owens Corning.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
