Starting 2024 Out Strong With Our Multifamily Food Drives

May 21, 2024

Our dedicated network of multifamily communities across the U.S. have started out the year with a bang, making an impact on local communities. Our multifamily properties are committed to helping us fight hunger and have already donated over 20,000 lbs of food, equaling 16,666 meals, so far this year. With a network of over 2,700 communities, as our Multifamily Program continues to grow, so does our impact.

Earth Day 2024

Our multifamily community 42 Hundred on the Lake, with RMK Management, hosted an Earth Day Food Drive 2024 and collected 126 lbs of food donations. This brought 100 meals back to the community of Eastern Wisconsin.

Spread the Love

spl.jpgThis year our incredible network helped us fight childhood hunger by hosting over 50 Spread The Love food drive events and donating 17,900 lbs of peanut butter and jelly jars. Our top three communities from this year are Wellington Parkside, Villas at Green Valley, and Cass Lake Shore Club!

Over 330 meals and 400 lbs of jars were donated by Wellington Parkside, a Dolben Company property, to the Council of Social Concern in Massachusetts.

The Villas at Green Valley, with Maxx Properties, donated 280 lbs of peanut and jelly to Hopelink Food Distribution Center. This is over 200 meals for the community of Nevada. Cass Lake Shore Club, with Village Green, collected 270 lbs, equal to 225 meals, to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.

Spring Into Action

Our annual Spring Into Action Food Drive encourages households to spring clean and donate their non-perishables to those in need. During Spring Into Action 2024, Prime Group Spring completed 25 events and donated over 3,400 lbs of food. The community with the most pounds donated is Sterling Pointe Apartments who donated 602 lbs to Oregon Food Bank.

Two donations were made to Tualatin Food Pantry by Sunset Summits Apartments with 245 lbs and The Frank Estate with 205 lbs. These three communities were able to turn those pounds into 875 meals for the community of Oregon!

We are beyond grateful for our network and partners’ commitment to helping us fight hunger and reduce food waste. With collective efforts, we’re able to make a real difference and impact in local communities struggling with food insecurity. Let’s celebrate the highlights of our Multifamily Program so far this year!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
