Partner Profiles | Wheaton World Wide Moving

Wheaton World Wide Van Lines has been an official partner with Move for Hunger since 2009. Their agents have delivered more than 1.5 million pounds of food, which is enough to provide 1.2 million meals. Here's a look back at how Wheaton agents have been helping to reduce food waste and fight hunger all across the country recently.

Delaware Moving & Storage Holds Annual Fall Food Drive & Fundraiser

In November, Delaware Moving & Storage asked members of their community to bring donations of non-perishable food to help provide meals for the more than 114,000 people, including 1 in 6 children, in the state who face hunger each day. More than 1,200 lbs. of food was collected and delivered to several church food pantries in the area - that’s enough to provide 1,000 meals!

Moving For Hunger in the Mile High City

Team Move For Hunger returned to Denver for the third year in a row to take on the Colfax Marathon, 1/2 Marathon, Relay, Urban 10 Miler & 5K on May 21, 2017. Runners/walkers from Colorado Hi-Tec Moving & Storage participated in the 1/2 marathon and 5K and turned their miles into meals!

Carolina Moving & Storage Helps Fight Childhood Hunger

Since August, Carolina Moving & Storage has delivered 46,000 lbs. of food to children in their community through their help with the Low Country Food Bank's BackPack Buddies program. On weekends, food insecure families often struggle to replace those meals. Children who take part in the BackPack Buddies program, however, receive a backpack full of nutritious food to take home each Friday during the school year. In just 8 months, Carolina Moving & Storage has delivered more than 38,000 meals to low-income children in their community!

AMWAT Moving & Warehousing Holds 4th Annual Summer Fill-A-Truck Food Drive

AMWAT Moving & Warehousing were one of the many who came together to donate non-perishable food to the 2017 Summer Fill-A-Truck food drive. Despite the stormy weather, the people of Tallahassee, Florida helped to collect more than 7,550 pounds of food — enough for nearly 6,300 meals.

Michigan Moving Company & Local School Collects More than 8,000 LBS. of Food

Move For Hunger had the opportunity to share its mission at the Michigan Movers Association Conference in 2017. One of the moving companies at the conference was ProfessionalMovers.com. After hearing about past food drives, they were inspired to join the fight against hunger. They decided to partner with St. Patrick Catholic School in White Lake. In a little over one week, students and faculty were able to collect more than 8,200 pounds of non-perishable food, enough to provide 6,800 meals for their neighbors in need!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from. 

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more. 

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT 

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
