Glengarry Construction Hosts Third Annual Fill a Truck Food Drive

February 22, 2019

Glengarry Construction held their Third Annual Fill-a-Truck food drive on February 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Metro Grocery Store in Trenton, Ontario.

During the one-day event, a grand total of 1,300 lbs. of food was collected, which equates to 1,080 meals! Glengarry Construction delivered all of the donations to Trenton Care and Share Food Bank.

This has quickly become a food drive that we look forward to every year! In 2017, Glengarry Construction hosted their first Fill a Truck, where they collected 1,000 lbs. of food, which is enough for 833 meals! In 2018, 1,446 lbs. of food were donated, which provides up to 1,205 meals!

Over the past 3 years, Glengarry Construction has collected a lifetime total of 3,746 lbs. of food, which translates to 3,120 meals for people their neighbors in need!

One in 8 households in Canada is food insecure. Thanks you to everyone at Glengarry Construction for helping us fight hunger in Canada, year after year.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
