Texas Movers Host Big Food Drive to Fight Hunger this Holiday Season

Daryl Flood Relocation and Logistics and their sister company, Dependable Relocation Services, Inc., hosted a "Fill the Food Banks" Holiday Food Drive to help support families facing hunger in Texas. Together, the five locations were able to collect more than 1,300 pounds of food - that's enough to provide 1,100 meals to their neighbors in need! darylfloodrelocationfooddrivefall2016-4

The five locations each delivered donations to their local food bank: 900 pounds of food was dropped off at the North Texas Food Bank, 260 pounds to Houston Food Bank, 52 pounds to the Central Texas Food Bank, 70 pounds to the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank, and 57 pounds to South Plains Food Bank.

There are more than 4.5 million people in Texas facing hunger each day, including 1 in 4 children. Many thanks to everyone at Daryl Flood Relocation and Logistics and Dependable Relocation Services for their generous contributions this holiday season!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
