Stewart Moving & Storage Collects Over 1,000 Pounds of Food!

April 18, 2016

Stewart Moving & Storage held a multi-location food drive and fill-a-truck April 4th - 9th! The event kicked off a new relationship between three of their locations and Move For Hunger as some of our newest members! Thanks to locations in Richmond, Baltimore, Fayetteville & Raleigh, and Pensacola, over 1,100 pounds of food were collected!

The Richmond, VA location held a week-long food drive at Long & Foster of Midlothian and Short Pump, and Valentine Realty of Moseley. The food drive commenced with a Fill-A-Truck event at Kroger of Midlothian. Together, 727 pounds of food were collected for the Central Virginia Food Bank! The food will go to help the nearly one million food insecure people in Virginia.

In Baltimore, MD, Stewart Moving & Storage held a Fill-A-Truck event at Safeway of Baltimore. Two hundred pounds of food were collected for Moveable Feast! This is fantastic for the 1 in 8 Maryland residents who struggle with food security.

The Fayetteville and Raleigh locations held a Fill-A-Truck at Harris Teeter Highland Centre in Fayetteville! Together, they were able to collect over 120 pounds of food for the nearly 2 million food insecure people in North Carolina. Food was donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina.

Stewart Moving & Storage of Pensacola, FL held a week-long food drive at Emerald Coast Realty of Pensacola that was followed by a Fill-A-Truck event at Publix! Ninety-three pounds of food were collected to help the nearly 3.5 million food insecure Florida residents. The food was donated to the Manna Food Bank of Pensacola.

Together, these locations of Stewart Moving & Storage were able to provide the east coast with over 950 meals! The team at Move For Hunger would like to extend a huge thank you to Stewart Moving & Storage and the realtors and stores who helped make this event such a success!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
