Benjamin D. Foulois Creative & Performing Arts Academy in Suitland, Maryland hosted a Thanksgiving food drive from November 8-22.
The school's prinicpal, Matthew McCrea, challenged his students to collect 1,000 pounds of non-perishable, Thanksgiving-themed items, such as instant mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and canned fruits/vegetables. Principal McCrea promised that, if they topped that goal, he'd let them hit him in the face with a pie. Needless to say, he underestimated his students, who collected nearly 1,600 pounds of food - enough to provide more than 1,300 meals.
Western Express provided boxes for the events and delivered all of the donations to the Capital Area Food Bank.
There are more than 760,000 people in Maryland who struggle with food insecurity, including 1 in 6 children. Many thanks to the students of Benjamin D. Foulois Creative & Performing Arts Academy and Western Express for helping your neighbors in need - and to Principal McCrea for being such a good sport!
