Ohio Movers Collect More Than 1,100 LBS. of Food

May 8, 2017

Lincoln Moving & Storage and Parma Movers, Bekins agents, hosted a food drive from April 24-28 to help families struggling with food insecurity in Cuyahoga County.

Members of the local community were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items to Lincoln Moving & Storage's ooffice in Brooklyn, Ohio. After all was said and done, a grand total of 1,125 pounds of food had been collected, providing about 940 meals for their neighbors in need!

Anyone who made a donation was entered into raffle for a chance to win a $100 gift card to Darden Restaurants. A second raffle took place for the kids, who had the chance to win a giant stuffed animal for every box of cereal donated.

Lincoln Moving & Storage personally delivered all of the donations to The Catholic Works of Mercy Food Pantry at Saint Ambrose

There are over 245,000 people, including 1 in 4 children, in Cuyahoga County who face hunger each day. Thank you to Lincoln Moving & Storage and Parma Movers for doing your part to fight hunger in Ohio!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
