For the fifth straight year, Move For Hunger hosted a food drive at the New Jersey Marathon and Health & Fitness Expo.
On Friday and Saturday, members of our staff and several volunteers were on hand to collect donations during the Expo. We were overwhelmed by the number of individuals who came in carrying shopping bags bursting with canned goods, pasta, and peanut butter as they filed into Monmouth Park prior to the big race on Sunday. On top of that, our partners at The New Jersey Marathon graciously donated bottles of water, protein bars, and other food that went unused following the race.

Through the efforts of everyone involved, we were able to provide over 8,000 pounds of food for the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties! A very special thank you goes out to Lowy's Moving Service, a Wheaton Van Lines agent, who volunteered their time, donated the boxes, and provided the trucks to deliver everything to the food bank.
Team Move For Hunger was also able to raise $700 through the efforts of Kerry Duffy, who ran the half-marathon and turned her miles into meals for the second year in a row. Click here to learn more about Kerry's story!
Nearly 10% of the population of Monmouth & Ocean County is affected by food insecurity, including over 47,000 children, so it has never been more important to come together to help those who are less fortunate. Move For Hunger is so grateful for the support of partners like The New Jersey Marathon and Lowy's Moving Service, the selfless dedication of our volunteers, the generosity of our local community, and the commitment of individuals like Kerry Duffy. They make it possible for Move For Hunger to continue helping our New Jersey neighbors in need.
Thank you to everyone who made the 2016 New Jersey Marathon Food Drive a success!
