Our food drive numbers were down heading into the final three months of the year, but our network of socially-responsible movers rallied. Thanks to their generosity, Move For Hunger helped host a record number of events in 2016. From October 1 through the end of 2016 alone we coordinated more than 300 food drives, which brought in over 522,000 pounds food. Here are a few of our favorites:
Crunch Fitness Locations Across the Country Hold Massive Thanksgiving Food Drive
With the help of our network of movers, 30 Crunch Fitness locations in New York, California, and Florida hosted food drives this November. The gyms combined to collect more than 2,500 pounds of food! That’s enough to provide over 2,100 meals to people struggling with food insecurity. A huge thank you to the many moving companies that made this amazing food drive possible: Divine Moving & Storage, Gentle Giant Moving Company of New York, White Glove Moving & Storage, Gentle Giant Moving Company of San Francisco, Alexander’s Mobility Services of Hayward, NorthStar Moving, and Crown Relocations of Miami.
Mergenthaler Transfer and Storage Collects More Than 11 Tons of Food
Mergenthaler Transfer and Storage
held a pair of Fill-A-Truck food drives in November to help stock the shelves at food banks in Montana during the holiday season.
Their branches in Helena and Great Falls collected more than 22,000 pounds of food, which equates to 18,500 meals!
Al's Moving & Storage and Bronxville Students Fight Hunger in Westchester County
For the third year in a row, Bronxville High School and Middle School in New York partnered with Al’s Moving and Storage to hold a fall food drive. Students, teachers, and administrators were encouraged to donate non-perishable, Thanksgiving-themed food items to help provide meals for their neighbors in need in time for the holiday.
Thanks to their commitment to fighting hunger and the generosity of the Bronxville community, more than 350 pounds of food was collected – that’s the equivalent of 300 meals!
Connecticut Woman Collects 1,000 Pounds of Food in a Single Day!
On November 19, Theresa Paulovic hosted her second annual Fill-A-Van food drive. Members of her community in Norwalk, CT were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to her home in an effort to help provide meals for their neighbors in need.
During this one day event, she was able to collect more than 1,000 pounds of food – that equates to 830 meals for local families in need! Kaster Moving, an Atlas agent, made it possible by donating boxes for the collection and a van for the day.
City Transfer and Storage Reaches Their Goal...And Then Some
City Transfer and Storage, an Atlas agent based in North Carolina, set a goal to collect 1,500 pounds of food during their three-week long food drive. Thanks to the generosity of their employees and members of the local community, they easily surpassed that total and collected nearly 1,900 pounds of non-perishable food. That’s enough to provide about 1,500 meals!
Scobey Moving & Storage Steps Up
Harker Heights High School in Texas held a food drive from October 24-November 14. Classes competed against eachother to see who could collect the most food – with the winners receiving a pizza party. When all was said and done, the students had collected nearly 2,900 pounds of food – that equates to more than 2,400 meals for their neighbors in need. Our friends Scobey Moving and Storage generously provided boxes for the collection and delivered all of the donations to the Food Care Center.
Xander Bossone Hosts 7th Annual Birthday Food Drive
Xander Bossone collected 2,000 pounds of food at his 7th annual birthday food drive, bringing his all-time total to nearly 27,000 pounds! Thank you to the crew of Lowy's Moving Service, a Wheaton World Wide Moving agent, for letting Xander borrow the truck for an afternoon and for making an early morning delivery to The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties the next day!
Fort Dearborn Relocation and Blackhawk Moving and Storage Hold 16th Annual 'Freezing For Food' Drive
Fort Dearborn Relocation and Blackhawk Moving and Storage worked together to hold one of the most successful food drives of the year - 50,000 lbs of food was collected for Illinois residents who are struggling with food insecurity.
Hopkins & Sons Helps Hosts Three Food Drives in November
Hopkins & Sons, Inc., an Atlas agent, recently partnered with Girls On The Run Delaware, Whole Foods Market in Glen Mills, PA, and Scott Deputy & Associates, LLC. to host food drives this November. Each of the food drives were a huge success as they combined to collect more than 1,400 pounds of food – that’s enough to provide over 1,200 meals for their neighbors in need!
