Boerman Moving & Storage Holds Fourth Annual Holiday Fill-A-Truck

November 15, 2016

For the fourth year in a row, Boerman Moving & Storage, an agent of Bekins Vans Lines, held a Fill-A-Truck food drive to help provide holiday meals for their neighbors in need. Boerman Moving nd Storage had one of their trucks parked outside the Jewel- Osco supermarket in Naperville, IL on November 12, and challenged shoppers to donate enough non-perishable food to fill the entire vehicle.

If they didn't fill the entire truck, they certainly came close! Boerman Moving & Storage established a new personal record by boermanmovingandstoragefillatruckfooddrive2016-2collecting nearly 2,100 poundsboermanmovingandstoragefillatruckfooddrive2016-3 of food, which equates to 1,750 meals. Their crew then personally delivered all of the donations to the West Suburan Community Pantry.

There are over 1.6 million people, including 1 in 5 children, in Illinois who face hunger each day, and they all deserve to enjoy a holiday meal. A huge thank you to Boerman Moving & Storage for your continued commitment to our cause and to everyone who donated for making this food drive a success!

There's still time to host a holiday food drive in your community. Let's get started!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
