Advance Relocation Systems Stuffs-A-Truck to Fight Hunger in Baltimore

May 31, 2016

Advance Relocation Systems, an Atlas agent, held a stuff-a-truck event on May 7th at Geresbeck's Food Market in Baltimore, Maryland. This amazing event encouraged participants to donate enough non-perishable food items to fill an entire truck before it left for the Maryland Food Bank. At the end of the day, Advance Relocation Systems was able to collect 383 lbs of food in under three hours. That’s the equivalent of 319 meals to benefit their Baltimore County neighbors who are in need! AdvanceRelocationSystems_logo

More than 760,000 people in Maryland struggle with hunger; nearly 24% of the residents of Baltimore City County are unsure of where they will find their next meal. Thank you to the generous individuals who made a donation & to everyone at Advance Relocation Systems and Geresbeck's Food Market for making this event possible.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
