Atlas Canada Agents Collect 4,300 LBS. of Food

October 25, 2019

While it may be cold outside during the holiday season, the warmth in our hearts tends to grow tenfold. Feeling thankful is always a blessing, but being able to spread that feeling and make a difference is so powerful. Atlas Van Lines Canada continues to create significant events that are so inspiring and necessary.

AMJCampbellAtlasCanadaThanksgivingFoodDrive2019(2).jpgFor the second year in a row, Atlas Van Lines Canada agents held a massive food drive leading up to Canadian Thanksgiving, which fell on October 14 this year. Atlas Canada’s corporate office, along with Mackie Moving SystemsKing’s Transfer Van LinesJay’s Transportation, and AMJ Campbell, all teamed up to help to provide meals for their neighbors in need.

More than 4,300 pounds of food was collected in total, which will help to provide 3,600 meals to families across Canada. Jay’s Group of Companies corporate office in Regina, Saskatchewan led the way by collecting 1,980 lbs. of food, followed by AMJ Campbell of Montreal with 796 lbs., and Mackie Moving Systems of Oshawa with 655 lbs.

With food insecurity affecting 1 in 8 Canadian households, the hard work of all of our Canada Agent’s is so incredibly important. The donations will positively change the lives of many in their local communities! Thank you so much to all of the locations that participated:

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
