We know that food banks face their greatest need during the summertime. Donations tend to decline, and families with children who had been receiving free or reduced-cost breakfast/lunch at school often need help replacing those meals. Hunger doesn't take a vacation, but neither do we. Members of our network helped to collect and deliver more than 200,000 lbs. of food since July 1 -- enough to provide more than 166,000 meals. Here's a look at how they did it.
Carolina Moving & Storage Delivers Backpacks Filled with Food to Children in South Carolina
South Carolina is home to more than 225,000 food insecure children. The Lowcountry Food Bank of South Carolina contacted us in hopes of finding a mover to volunteer for a delivery, so we reached out to Carolina Moving & Storage and they jumped at the opportunity. Carolina Moving & Storage, a Wheaton provided the trucks and manpower needed to deliver over 8,000 pounds of food — nearly 7,000 meals – to 7 different elementary schools around Beaufort, SC.
Apex Moving & Storage Collects Nearly 7,000 LBS. of Food at Washington State Fair
Move For Hunger doesn’t just make donations to food banks and pantries across the United States and Canada; our partners are forming lasting partnerships with their local hunger relief organizations. Case in point: In 2015, Apex Moving & Storage
, a Stevens agent, joined our network and began making deliveries to the Puyallup Food Bank. The partnership with the food bank has opened the door to additional opportunities. Every year, the Washington State Fair holds a First Day Food Drive. Anyone who brings a donation of non-perishable food during the first two hours on the first day of the Fair gets in for free. This year, Apex Moving & Storage volunteered to collect donations at two of the gates.
Gentle Giant Moving of Philadelphia Rescues Enough Fresh Produce to Enhance 1,700 Meals 
On August 7, Philabundance, a food bank that provides assistance to the greater Philadelphia area, asked if Gentle Giant would be able to participate in another glean this summer. Just two weeks later, Gentle Giant sent a team of volunteers to A.T. Buzby Farm in Pilesgrove, NJ. Their mission: to rescue as many pounds of fresh corn as possible. The Gentle Giant crew was able to glean 1,700 pounds of delicious New Jersey corn. According to Philabundance, every 1 pound of produce donated enhances 1 meal. Gentle Giant, then, helped to enhance 1,700 meals!
AAA Moving & Storage/Allied Alaska Collects 5,000+ LBS. of Food 
AAA Moving & Storage/Allied Alaska decided to spread some holiday cheer by holding a Christmas in July food drive. Four of Allied Alaska’s locations – Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kodiak, & Palmer – held their own food drives outside of their local supermarkets. Together, they collected almost nearly 5,200 pounds of food — that's enough to provide more than 4,330 meals! Allied Alaska is well on their way to meeting their goal of collecting 10,000 pounds of food by the end of the year!
Northstar Moving Company and Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Send Hunger Packing!
NorthStar Moving® Company and Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Greater Los Angeles and Orange County are well aware of the relief food drives can provide and have been helping to fight hunger for FIVE summers now with their annual “Let’s Send Hunger Packing” food drive. The food drive, which took place from May 22-June 16 helped to collect more than 6,360 pounds of food — enough to provide 5,300 meals!
White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery Mobilizes Local Businesses to Fight Summer Hunger
Because hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation, White Glove Moving & Storage & Delivery knew that the month of June was a better time than ever to host a food drive. For the fifth year in a row, White Glove helped coordinate food drives at 45 locations along Florida’s Treasure Coast from May 30-June 12. Despite the busy summer moving season, White Glove Moving, Storage, & Delivery exceeded every expectation by donating more than 3,200 pounds of food – nearly 2,700 meals – to the Treasure Coast Food Bank. That’s double what they collected during last year’s food drive!
Brandon Moving and Storage Hosts 5th Food Drive of 2017
Brandon Moving and Storage, a Bekins agent, has hosted not one, not two, but FIVE food drives so far in 2017! The Fill-A-Truck food drive they held at a local Walmart was an huge success! The moving company was able to collect 750 pounds of food, which is equal to 625 meals! Brandon Moving and Storage also received more than $1,000 in cash donations, and they donated that money to the Choctaw Food Bank, which used the cash to purchase more than 6,000 pounds of food. So, in total, the food drive brought in a total of 7,350 pounds of food, enough to provide more than 6,130 meals to those in need!
Tippet-Richardson Moving & Storage of Calgary Fills a Truck with 380 Pounds of Food!

played their part in the fight against hunger this summer by holding a Fill-A-Truck food drive in Calgary, Alberta. The event was held outside of the local Save-On-Foods supermarket, where one of Tippet-Richardson’s moving trucks was parked. Shoppers and the surrounding community were challenged to donate enough non-perishable food to fill the truck! It proved to be a successful way for the community to give back, as the event brought in 380 pounds of food— enough for 315 meals! All of the donations were delivered by Tippet Richardson’s crew to the Calgary Food Bank, where 4 in 10 of the clients are children.
Two Men and a Truck of Pittsburgh Collect 300+ LBS. of Food
On August 12, kids in Bethel Park, PA had a chance to climb aboard police cars, fire engines, and one of Two Men and a Truck of Pittsburgh’s moving trucks at South Park Shops’ first-ever “Touch a Truck” event. Families love Touch a Truck events because, let’s face it, big trucks are pretty cool. We love them because they are a great place for our movers to hold food drives. There was a huge turnout and they were able to collect 325 pounds of food! That’s enough food to provide 270 meals!
