Stewart Moving And Storage Hosts Trick-or-Can Food Drives at 7 Locations

November 13, 2018

Here at Move For Hunger, we are always looking for and coming up with new ways to host food drives. Our goal? To make them as fun and as easy as possible for everyone involved. With the recent rollout of our new featured campaigns, we are able to do this every single time! Knowing that these campaigns inspire the community to take action, Stewart Moving and Storage decided to host one of their own this fall, specifically a Trick-Or-Can food drive.

For the last week of October, various Stewart locations all along the east coast dedicated their Halloween to giving back. From Florida, to Maryland and Virginia, customers, employees, and referral partners of the moving company were encouraged to donate nonperishable items such as peanut butter, cereal, tuna fish and pasta. Stewart Moving and Storage delivered the donations to a few different food banks, including FeedMore, Maryland Food Bank and Feeding Northeast Florida.

In Virginia, where Stewart Moving and Storage's corporate office is located, there are more than 890,000 people who are struggling with food insecurity, including 1 in 8 children. It's a scary statistic, but thanks to food drives like this, many families across the state will be able to put dinner on the table this fall. Thanks so much to Stewart Moving and Storage for making a difference in the lives of those in need.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
