Scott Deputy & Associates Hold 4th Annual Food Drive

January 3, 2020

For the fourth year in a row, we partnered with Scott Deputy & Associates to hold a Thanksgiving Food Drive

As in previous years, Scott Deputy and his staff enlisted the help of their fellow residential real estate brokerage firm, The Kat Geralis Home Team, who graciously hosted the event at their office in Wilmington, DE. In only two hours, they collected more than 530 lbs. of non-perishable food, which provided 440 meals to people in their community!

Scott Deputy started holding this food drive as a way to give back to Wilmington. Deputy combines this food drive with his client appreciation event. He invites former clients to his office and, in exchange for a donation of a non-perishable food item, his clients receive a locally sourced holiday pie.

“I love combining these in one event, and my clients appreciate the opportunity to contribute to this cause and help our local community. It’s just a great way to get people involved with this great cause,” Deputy said.

Teaming up withThe Kat Geralis Home Team has helped get even more people involved and interested in the event.

“Everyone loves it. More is more in this case: the more agents that are involved, the more people that come out to support the event. Everyone wins!”

If you would like to hold a food drive locally and are not sure what to do, Deputy has this advice for you.

“Contact Move For Hunger to see if there is a local moving company who can assist. They can help with logistics and food transportation after the event."

Once again, our friends from Hopkins & Son Moving & Storage supplied boxes and volunteered to deliver all donations to the Food Bank of Delaware.

Over the past 4 years, Scott Deputy & Associates and friends have collected more than 2,200 lbs. of food, which is the equivalent of 1,850 meals that go directly to feed residents of Delaware! We are so grateful that we've been able to work together to provide Thanksgiving meals but, as Deputy reminds us, hunger is a year-round problem.

"It's always good to remember that food drives are important throughout the year, and not just during the holiday season.”

More than 117,000 people in Delaware are food insecure, including 1 in 6 children. Many thanks to Scott Deputy & Associates, The Kat Geralis Home Team, and Hopkins & Sons for their continued support of our fight to end hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
