Scott Deputy & Associates and Hopkins & Sons Moving Hold 3rd Annual Food Drive

December 5, 2018

For the third year in a row, Scott Deputy & Associates helped us fight hunger in Delaware by hosting a food drive! This year, the residential real estate brokerage also enlisted the help of The Kat Geralis Home Team, who hosted the event at their office in Wilmington on November 18.

More than 430 lbs. of food was collected in just 4 hours, which is the equivalent of 360 meals! Our friends from Hopkins & Sons Moving & Storage, an Atlas Van Lines agent, once again provided boxes for the collection and volunteered to deliver all of the donations to the Food Bank of Delaware.

Scott Deputy & Associates has now collected nearly 1,700 lbs. of food over the past 3 years - which is amazing! And it's so important, because more than 114,000 people, including 1 in 6 children, in Delaware face hunger each every day. It's so encouraging to see local businesses work together to give back to the communities they serve.

Thank you to everyone at Scott Deputy & Associates, Hopkins & Sons Moving & Storage, and The Kat Geralis Home Team for working together to make a difference. You continue to inspire us!

Make it your New Year's resolution to fight hunger in 2019!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
