MSI Global Talent Solutions Cans their CEO!

July 9, 2018

Our partners at MSI Global Talent Solutions decided it was time to can their CEO!

Can The CEO is one of our signature events: we challenge employees at companies all across the country to fill the office of their CEO with so many non-perishable food items that he/she will no longer fit inside his/her office! We love seeing our partners take part in this wonderful team building activity that supports local food banks and raises awareness about hunger in the community.

From April to early June, the MSI team began filling up the office of their CEO, Timm Runnion. They must have been very determined to make sure he couldn’t fit in his office because the staff collected more than 1,225 pounds of food! These donations were then sent to the local food pantry, GATHER, and provided 1,000 meals for their neighbors in need.

More than 119,000 people are food insecure in New Hampshire alone, including 1 in 9 children. It’s always fantastic to see our partners recognizing the urgency of the problem and taking action!

We would like to thank MSI Global Talent Solutions for hosting this event in their office, and to the team at Gentle Giant Moving Company of Portsmouth who assisted with moving donations from the office to the food bank during this busy summer season. Another thank you goes to CEO Timm Runnion who was willing to share his office with boxes of non-perishable food!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
