Mover Dudes Holds 3rd Annual Stuff the Truck Food Drive

February 15, 2019

Mover Dudes held their 3rd Annual Stuff the Truck food drive, in partnership with Shenandoah Valley’s RE/MAX Roots, on Saturday, December 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Walmart in Winchester, Virginia.

A grand total of 5,000 pounds of food and supplies were donated during the one-day event! Mover Dudes personally delivered all of the donations to The Laurel Center, a domestic and sexual violence intervention center.

We appreciate Mover Dudes’ continuous efforts to give back to their local community.

Back in 2017, at their  2nd annual Stuff the Truck, 6,000 lbs. of items were donated to the Henry & William Evans Homes for Children. And the year prior, Mover Dudes, RE/MAX Roots, and the Winchester Salvation Army collected 5,000 lbs. of food and supplies that were donated to the Congressional Community Action Project.

More than 32,000 people in the greater Fredericksburg area are food insecure, including 1 in 9 children. Thank you to Mover Dudes for always embracing the season of giving and helping out in the community!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
