Mesa Moving and Storage Holds Fill-A-Truck Food Drive

December 12, 2019

Mesa Moving and Storage of Whitefish, MT held their first Thanksgiving Fill-a-Truck Food Drive on Saturday, November 16 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at their local Safeway supermarket.

Mesa Moving and Storage strives to serve their local community in as many ways as possible. While this was their first time hosting a Fill-a-Truck, it will not be the last,  according to General Manager, Marie Lewis.

Mesa provided customers with a list of the most desired non-perishable food and toiletry items. The Whitefish community stepped up, helping to fill box after box, and in just four hours, Mesa collected more than 1,520 lbs. of food, which will provide 1,200 meals! A team of Mesa employees happily delivered all donations to the North Valley Food Bank.

More than 11,500 people in Flathead County are food insecure, including 1 in 6 children. Many thanks to Mesa Moving and Storage of Whitefish for making this food drive a great success!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
