Xander's Fill-A-Truck Event Collects Over 2,000 Pounds!

January 6, 2016

For the fourth year in a row, Ms. Donna Bossone and her son, Xander, hosted a Fill-A-Truck food drive birthday event for Xander! The event was held at the Manasquan ACME on December 13th. By the end of the day, the truck was filled with 2,143 pounds of food! This collection is equal to 1,786 meals for those facing food insecurity in the Monmouth County community. What an amazing way to spend your 12th birthday!

xanderfillatruck20152Move For Hunger, with the generous help of Lowy's Moving Service, made this event possible by providing the supplies and transportation. At the end of the event, Lowy's Moving service picked up the 2,143 pounds of food and delivered the collection to The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

On behalf of Move For Hunger, we want to express our appreciation of your determination to end hunger and applaud your enormous success! In Monmouth county, 10% of the population faces food insecurity; we extend a huge thank you to Donna, Xander, the team at Lowy's, and everybody who donated for helping fight this startling number.

Hope you had a great birthday, Xander!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
