White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery Fights Hunger Along the Treasure Coast

July 19, 2016

White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery recently partnered with over a dozen businesses in the Treasure Coast area of Florida to host a summer food drive.

Anyone who has ever been involved in the relocation business knows that summer is the busy season. One in 8 Americans move each year, and most of those do so during the summer months.WhiteGlove4

Food Banks, on the other hand, face their greatest need when children are on summer break and are no longer receiving meals at school. Families who rely on those subsidized breakfast and lunches often turn to food banks to help fill the gap.

Despite having little free time, White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery knew they could make a difference.

WhiteGlove2"When working families have their hours reduced and the free meals children rely on during the school year aren't available, we need to do everything we can to help our local food banks," said Anna Valencia Tillery, White Glove's Vice President of Marketing. "Thanks to the generosity of local businesses and our customers, we were able to provide over 1,300 meals to our community."

In addition to the food that they collected by asking their customers to donate their food when they move, White Glove also coordinated food drives with the following local organizations: Oculina Bank, Cultural Council of Indian River, Dale Sorensen Real Estate, Palm Coast Development, Keller Williams of Vero Beach, Riverwalk, Fantastic Finds, Keller Williams of Pt. St. Lucie, Store Right Self Storage, Champion Home Healthcare, Berkshire Hathaway, Treasure Coast Sotheby's, Coldwell Banker Paradise, Dental Partners of Vero, Coldwell Banker of Stuart, Water Pointe Realty, Vero Beach Power Squadron, Sweet Life Realty, Brown & Brown Insurance, Sea Turtle Real Estate, Marine Bank, and Coldwell Banker Pt. St. Lucie. WhiteGlove3

The combined effort resulted in nearly 1,600 lbs of food being delivered to the Treasure Coast Food Bank. Nearly 100,000 people struggle with food insecurity in the four counties the food bank serves, including one in four children. The meals generated by this event will certainly help to keep to shelves stocked at the food bank this summer.

White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery has now delivered a grand total 14,871 lbs of food - that's the equivalent of 12,392 meals - since joining the Move For Hunger program in 2013! Thank you to the entire crew for your steadfast support and commitment to ending hunger in Florida!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
