Vungle in San Francisco Collects over 1,000 Pounds of Food In An Office Competition!

January 6, 2016

Feeling the holiday spirit, the team at Vungle collaborated with Move For Hunger to host a food drive at their offices in San Francisco.

The event began on November 30th and ended December 18th. According to the rules set forth by Vungle, whoever donated the most food won a prize! This initiative worked as quite a success since Vungle had collected 1,372 pounds of food by the close of their event! This equates 1,143 meals for the San Francisco community fighting hunger.

A special thanks goes out to Gentle Giant Moving Company in San Francisco who generously provided the supplies to get this drive in motion! At the end of the drive, Gentle Giant transported the collection of food to the San Francisco Marin Food Bank.

In San Francisco, almost 17% of the entire population is suffering from food insecurity. Admirable efforts like the Vungle Food Drive combat this startling statistic. The staff at Move For Hunger extends a huge thank you to both Vungle and Gentle Giant for their dedication to advocating the fight against hunger. We thank you for your dedication and applaud your outstanding success!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
