Vintage at Laughlin Named Community of the Month for July 2023

August 21, 2023

Each month, Move For Hunger chooses a community that displays a dedication to ending hunger. Vintage at Laughlin has been named August 2023 Community of the Month!

Vintage at Laughlin, located in Laughlin, Nevada, USA, has been working relentlessly with Move for Hunger this year to help collect food when people move. During the FPI Management Pride Pantry food drive in June, they made a significant donation and transported the food themselves. They provided about 600 pounds of food, which equaled to approximately 500 meals distributed to those in need!

"We wanted to represent the community we live in and show that our residents and neighbors are more than just the door next door. “ said Stephanie Stockman, Community Director of Vintage at Laughlin. “ We feel it is important to give back because not everybody is as fortunate as the person you are standing next to.”

Vintage at Laughlin, operated by FPI Management, recently joined Move For Hunger as a multifamily member in late 2022.

Stockman continued, “Move for Hunger is a great program to assist communities with the help and desire to achieve better goals for areas that have the less fortunate, and to be able to feed them."

One in every five children in Nevada is wondering where their next meal will come from. Food insecurity affects over 400,000 people or one out of every eight in this state alone. We gratefully thank every community that is assisting us in our fight against hunger in every area!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
