Two Men and a Truck Transports Food for Feeding Our Kids

July 28, 2020

Our network of movers makes an impact in communities all across the country. One of the most prominent movers, Two Men and a Truck, has franchises spread around the U.S. but few have made a bigger impact this year than the one in Champaign, Illinois.  Two Men and a Truck Champaign have been making monthly food transports in support of Feeding Our Kids during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since May, Two Men and a Truck Champaign have been supporting Feeding Our Kids on a monthly basis.

Feeding Our Kids provides nourishing food to food-insecure children in Champaign county on weekends and holidays throughout the school year. Every month, Two Men and a Truck Champaign deliver a variety of healthy food that stays local in Champaign county.

Since May, Two Men and a Truck Champaign have delivered over 13,600 lbs. of food which is the equivalent of 11,400 meals.

The help is needed, as over 363,000 children in Illinois are food insecure, as well as 13% of children in Champaign county alone. Thanks to Two Men and a Truck Champaign their monthly transports help combat these statistics. During these trying times with COVID-19, their help makes all the difference in children’s lives.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
