In the two-plus weeks since Hurricane Harvey flooded large swaths of Southeast Texas, we've been asked the following question at least once a day: "how can I help?"
Travis Blaney, Sales and Marketing Manager at Two Men and a Truck in Springfield, IL, was asked the same question by his employees. It didn't take them long to find an answer.
On September 1, one week after the storm made landfall, Two Men and a Truck volunteered their time and resources to assist with the "Standing Strong for Texas" relief drive that Midwest Family Broadcasting and Sinclair Broadcasting held at a local Walmart. Blaney made sure a truck was on-site to store the donations. Members of the Two Men and a Truck crew were also there to help collect the goods and load them onto the vehicle. In addition to helping with the relief efforts, Blaney and his team were also accepting donations of non-perishable food for the Central Illinois Food Bank.
"One of our core values is giving back to the community," Blaney told NewsChannel ABC 20. "It's great to be able to help take care of others."
More than 2,300 lbs. of food was donated - enough to provide more than 1,900 meals. Blaney was overwhelmed by the generosity of his community.
"It really is amazing. It was a lot more than I expected."
