As we all know, the holiday season is a time for giving. What you may not know is that in Cook County Illinois, 1 in 6 people have to turn to the Greater Chicago Food Depository Network to get food to eat so they don't go hungry.
For 25 years, the NBA's Chicago Bulls have held a holiday food drive to help keep the shelves at the Greater Chicago Food Depository stocked. During the month of December, fans who attended Bulls home games were asked to bring donations of peanut butter, canned fruits/vegetables, rice, beans, etc., to the United Center. On the last day of the drive, Vienna Beef offered to match the donations made by the fans on that night. Along with the in-arena donations, 34 public schools in Chicago competed to see who could collect the most food between from November 9-December 9.
Along with the in-arena donations, 34 public schools in Chicago competed to see who could collect the most food between from November 9-December 9.
This year, they were able to collect more than 63,000 lbs. of non-perishable food, which far exceeded the 50,000 lbs. goal they had set for the drive.
Our friends at Reebie Storage & Moving Company helped to make it all possible by volunteering to pick up the food and deliver it to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
There are more than 203,000 people in Cook County who are struggling with food insecurity. Thank you to the team at Reebie Storage & Moving for donating your time and resources to help make this massive food drive a success.
