Salt Creek Golf Club Tees Off Against Hunger

November 18, 2016

saltcreekgolfclubfooddrive2016-2Salt Creek Golf Club in Wood Dale, IL hosted a food drive which kicked off with a golf tournament on October 29 and continued until November 17. Members of the local community were encouraged to attend the tournament on October 29, and to bring donations to the golf club throughout the remainder of the food drive.

The result? Nearly 350 pounds of food - that's 290 meals - were collected for their neighbors in need.

Nelson Westerberg
 of Elk Grove Village,
an Atlas agent, generously offered to deliver the donations to the Bensenville Food Pantry at the conclusion of the event.

Over 1.6 million people in Illinois, including 1 in 5 children, face hunger. Thanks to organizations like the Salt Creek Golf Club and Nelson Westerberg of Elk Grove Village, Move For Hunger can continue to help the over 50 million Americans who do not have enough to eat.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
