During their third annual food drive, Prominent Properties Sotheby's International Realty collected an astounding 48,801lbs of food!

Twelve office locations across northern New Jersey participated in the fall food drive, including: Alpine, Edgewater, Fort Lee, Franklin Lakes, Hillsdale, Hoboken, Montclair, Ridgewood, Saddle River, Short Hills, Tenafly, and Westfield.

Between October 15 and November 15, these twelve locations collected non-perishable food items to benefit the Center For Food Action in Ridgewood, NJ. These almost 50,000 pounds equates to about 41,000 additional meals on the tables of our hungry neighbors in New Jersey, a great gift this holiday season.

Over 1.1 million people suffer from food insecurity in New Jersey, including over 374,000 children, and Prominent Properties Sotheby's International Realty is fighting to reduce those numbers by continuing to donate amazingly large quantities of food for the second year in a row.

Move For Hunger would like to send a special thanks to Ridgewood Moving Services, an agent of Bekins Van Line, Harrington Moving & Storage, and All Season Movers Inc., an agent of Atlas Van Lines, for volunteering their services, resources, and manpower to help fight hunger in New Jersey.

Join them in the fight against hunger by hosting your own food drive today. Visit MoveForHunger.org for information on how to do just that!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
