During the warm summer months when hunger is in the back of most people's minds, our real estate partner, Hampton One Real Estate, and two or our local movers, Hall Lane Moving & Storage and Gold Service Movers, decided to team up with Future Stars Summer Camps and South Hampton Youth Services Inc. of NY to host a huge food drive at each of their summer camps: Operation End Hunger.

All July long, the counselors and campers at the Future Star Summer Camps collected food from friends, family and neighbors and brought the donations to the drop-off boxes at the camp offices. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of our movers and dedicated crew at Future Stars the food drive was able to collect nearly 2,000 pounds of food to benefit the Food Bank of Westchester, Long Island Cares, and East Hampton Food Pantry

Through the generous efforts of Hall Lane and Gold Service Moving, agents of Wheaton Van Lines and North American Van Lines, the food banks didn't have to lift a finger or spend a dime - which means more time and effort can go into reversing hunger in the Long Island and Westchester area.

Move For Hunger sends a VERY warm thank you to all involved in Operation End Hunger. The pounds collected are enough to create an upwards of 1,500 meals for those less fortunate. More than 924,970 children in New York are food insecure and could potentially have no idea where their next meal will come from. However, successful food drives like this one not only create a lasting impact on those in need, but are also extremely easy to put together.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
