October Mover of the Month: Two Men And A Truck

November 19, 2015

Every month we like to recognize one of the outstanding moving companies that volunteer their time to make what we do here at Move For Hunger possible. Our October 2015 Mover of the Month goes to....TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® of King of Prussia!

Two Men and a Truck started out as an after school business for two high school boys looking to make good use of their free time and a few extra bucks along the way. They had no idea their local town business, 30 years and 5 million moves later, would eventually grow into the massive worldwide company it is today.

Most recently, they donated their time and muscles to pick up nearly 400 pounds of food following the AVE 2015 Kickoff Food Drive. After picking twomenandtruckdropoffup the donations, they drove the food straight to The Salvation Army of West Chester so it can be distributed out to the 14% of people living in Pennsylvania facing food insecurity. They did not hesitate when we asked them if they wanted to get involved again this month for another AVE Thanksgiving food drive.

Since partnering with Move For Hunger in May of 2013, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® of King of Prussia have donated more than 4,509 pounds of food to those in need. That amount of food is equivalent to 3,758 meals to feed those in need in the greater Philadelphia area. They have also helped rescue food from the Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia Marathon for the last three years! We are so grateful to have a wonderful company such as yours working with us at Move For Hunger to fill people's bellies and make the world a better place.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
