In the last few years, the endurance sports industry has become an outlet for people looking to motivate each other to overcome physical and mental obstacles. From mud runs to triathlons, there is a race for everyone to challenge themselves with. Plus, with the fun themes and outrageous outfits being donned; it's a guaranteed good time for all. Unfortunately, one thing is often overlooked at these large events, the amount of food that ends up going to waste after the race is over.
By working with Move For Hunger, the international triathlon series
Ironman and the
Rock 'n' Roll Marathons Series looks to reduce that waste, making an even more direct contribution to the immediate community. Just this past September, Move For Hunger and the
Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon rescued 500 pounds of food from a landfill. This perfectly good, nonperishable food was brought to a local food bank by a Move For Hunger supported mover,
Two Men and a Truck.
At the
Ironman Wisconsin race, an astonishing 30,000 pounds of food was delivered to a local food bank by
Capital City Transfer, Inc. By rescuing this food, it makes a huge difference in the lives of those who suffer from hunger and relay on the local food bank for nutrition.

These are incredible accomplishments that deserve recognition and an overall round of applause. Move For Hunger looks forward to working with both Ironman and the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series in upcoming events to continue to overcome hunger.
