We have some truly amazing movers here at Move For Hunger.  Each month we recognize one of those fantastic movers who has gone above and beyond to fight hunger in their local community.  For April of 2014 we would like to congratulate  Mergenthaler Transfer and Storage of Great Falls, Montana on being named Move For Hunger's Mover of the Month.

Since teaming up with Move For Hunger last year, Mergenthaler Transfer and Storage has collected 4,006 pounds of food.  Their efforts have provided 3,338 meals to the Great Falls Community Food Bank. It's so great to see the commitment and dedication of one of our newest partners turn into thousands of meals for the less fortunate.

In addition to their daily collection efforts, Mergenthaler Transfer and Storage has organized a number of successful Fill-A-Truck events and food drives that have significantly impacted hunger in the Great Falls community.  Please join us in honoring Mergenthaler for all of their hard work and congratulating them on earning the title of Mover of the Month!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
