June 27, 2014

Move For Hunger works with a  ton of great movers who do their part to help those in need.  However, each month we like to celebrate one of our movers who continues to go above and beyond to support those less fortunate in their community.

For the  Mover of the Month for May 2014, we are going all the way up to the last frontier  to highlight Kodiak Transfer, Inc of Kodiak!

Since teaming up with Move For Hunger in 2011, the Kodiak Transfer team has collected over 2,500 lbs of food.  By embodying the Move For Hunger spirit through their consistent efforts to help those who struggle with hunger, Kodiak Transfer has continually displayed why they are being honored as Mover of the Month.

As a special thank you for their hard work, the team will receive a prize pack from our friends at Rand McNally as well as the highly sought after  Mover of the Month plaque.

Please join us again in congratulating Kodiak Transfer as our Mover of the Month for May 2014, as well as our first Mover of the Month from Alaska!  Keep up the good work helping those less fortunate and fighting hunger in Kodiak community!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
