Mover of the Month March 2014: Bloomington Relocation Systems

April 23, 2014

Each month we like to give a special shout out to a mover that goes the extra mile (pun intended) to make a difference for the less fortunate of their community. This month we would like to shine a light on the efforts of Bloomington Relocation Systems of Normal, Illinois, an agent for North American Van Lines. BLOOMINGTONRELOCATION The crew at Bloomington consistently exemplifies the spirit of Move For Hunger each and every month. In the past 6 months they've generously donated their resources to assist the IMAWA host a food drive that collected over 3,000 lbs. as well as the school districts of Bloomington, IL that brought in over 2,520 lbs. of food for the local food bank! Since they first joined in 2012, they've delivered more than 8,820 lbs. to the local food bank. That's enough to provide a meal to over 7,350 people in Illinois in just two years.

Please join us in congratulating Bloomington as our Mover of the Month for March 2014.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
