BergerMovingForwardJUNE

Every month Move For Hunger honors a mover who has impacted the community through their work to fight hunger and supporting those in need.

With the news of LeBron James’ return to the Cavaliers gaining so much buzz recently, its only fitting that we highlight the awesome efforts of one of our all-star movers who also happens to be a fellow Cleveland resident. Due to their constant efforts to fight hunger in their community and exemplifying the Move For Hunger spirit,  we are proud to honor Berger Transfer and Storage of Cleveland, an agent of Allied Van Lines, as our Mover of the Month for June 2014.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
