We have a saying at Move For Hunger that you can turn ANYTHING into a food drive! Our friends at Hansen Bros. have certainly found their food drive niche. Last month Hansen Bros. held their second Roller Derby Food Drive with the Jet City Rollergirls! - collecting over 440 Pounds of food!! Click Here to see their first Roller Derby Drive with the Tilted Thunder. What better way to fight hunger than to do it with the hard hitting girls of roller derby!

Founded in 1890, Hansen Bros. is one of the oldest family owned moving companies in the NW. Since joining Move For Hunger in January of 2012, Hansen Bros. - agent for Allied Van Lines has donated 1,998 pounds of food to the Northwest Harvest Food Bank. That's enough food to provide over 1,500 life saving meals for those in need.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
